Our Work Abroad Program helps young professionals find a career-boosting job or internship abroad. We connect them with specific roles at innovative hiring companies that align with their professional projects. To enter the Program, candidates perform a first selection interview with a Planet Expat recruiter, communicating their skills, experiences and professional aspirations.
Our recruiters are looking for candidates who have prepared well and are serious about getting a job abroad. So consider this interview as important as a formal job interview – it is the first impression we’ll have of you. And after all, the more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it.
Here are 5 tips to nail your interview with a Planet Expat recruiter and convince us that you should enter our Program:
1. Learn about Planet Expat and how we work
Review our website before scheduling your interview and familiarize yourself with our Work Abroad Program. To get a feel for what you can expect from us, check out the testimonials of candidates who have successfully obtained an international job through our Program. Read our detailed FAQ and prepare some questions before your interview to help you fully understand our services.
2. Define your professional project
What are your motivations for carrying out an experience abroad? Are you wanting to learn a new language, immerse yourself in a diverse work environment, gain experience in a new sector, kick start your career, or perhaps all of the above? Next, consider the countries you’d like to target and what kind of contract you’re looking for, an internship or a job? Or perhaps even a traineeship that can lead to a permanent position? You really need to anticipate to make your interview as productive as possible. And remember: the more open you are to different opportunities, the easier and faster it will be for us to find you a great role.
3. Prepare your professional pitch
Identify the key points about your previous experiences that you want to highlight to our recruiters. Remember: we already have your CV. So what we’re looking for is a convincing story that goes beyond that and shows you’re an ambitious, engaged young professional.
Use this funnel method to help you build a strong story:
As you can see, you should take time illustrating your significant achievements at the company, proving that you really made an impact. Use specific examples explaining what you did, how you did it and the impact it had.
4. Familiarize yourself with Skype
Your interview with one of our recruiters will be via Skype – make sure you prepare for it well. You want to make a good impression so act and dress professionally. Above all, we ask for you to be on time or give visibility if you will be delayed to help you maximize your session. If you need to reschedule, inform our recruiter in advance so they can find the most convenient time for you. Finally, turn on the video to create the best connection with the recruiter. Be yourself and show us why you’re a great candidate for our Program!
5. Let us help you
Our HR experts are fully dedicated to helping you successfully obtain a job or internship abroad. So the more honest you are with us, the better we can support you in your search. Let the recruiter know if you’ve applied for a role elsewhere or you’re involved with another recruitment agency. If we know how active you are in your job search, we can highlight your profile to companies accordingly and communicate your time constraints.
Overall, preparation is key. So follow these tips to nail your interview with a Planet Expat recruiter and start your journey towards a career-boosting experience abroad.
We can’t wait to hear about your profile and we wish you the best of luck 🙂
